SOCIAL VENUES

Oxford has a rich history of social interaction between Town and Gown. The Universities have bars and social calendars for students, staff and their guest. For the rest of us, there are many social places in and around the city and waterways of Oxford. Most venues around Oxford are LGBT+ friendly, some favourites are included below. Jolly Farmers

One of the oldest established gay pubs in the country, The Jolly Farmers has served the gay community in Oxford and the surrounding areas since 1981.

The Plush Lounge (Plush)

 Oxford’s only gay nightclub. Open on Fridays and Saturdays until 4 a.m.

RedBox

Red Box is a friendly women-only event, held on the second Tuesday of every month in different bars and pubs around Oxford. They also host occasional cabaret, music, film and comedy events.

Molly – Party for Queers

Molly aims to be an inclusive space for Oxford’s queer community – at multiple venues. Molly runs Oxford-based queer social events on the 2nd Friday of the month: FriYAY. Other events as announced online.

PRIDE EVENTS

 

Oxford Pride

Oxford Pride is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer life in Oxfordshire. There are events throughout the year plus an Arts & Culture Festival (Friday 25-Sunday 3rd June 2018) including the annual Pride Parade and Pride Day on Saturday 2nd June 2018. The events supporting or arranged by Oxford Pride promote awareness of LGBT+ issues by providing information, education and entertainment in a welcoming and encouraging environment. UK Pride Organisers Network

There are over 120 Pride events in the UK. Whilst many popular Pride parades and events are in major towns and cities, more and more smaller towns and villages are hosting Pride events. UK Pride 2018

The first UK Pride was hosted by Pride in Hull as part of the 2017 UK City of Culture. Members of the UK Pride Organisers Network attending the annual conference in October 2017 voted for Isle of Wight to host UK Pride 2018. The main event will take place on Saturday 21 July 2018, when all are encouraged to visit the island and join in with Pride. Visit www.iwpride.org for more information.

 

UK Black Pride

UK Black Pride promotes unity and co-operation among all Black people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American descent, who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender, as well as their friends and families. Visit ukblackpride.org.uk

 

Trans Pride Brighton
