There are a variety of sports groups in Oxford. Below are a few that have been recommended. If you have a team you would like to be listed please let us know.
Oxford Roller Derby
Oxford Roller Derby was founded in late 2010 and has been gradually growing in size and experience ever since. Our skaters come from all over Oxfordshire and many different walks of life to develop their common passion for this fast growing sport. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with ORD, and not all of them require kneepads. At present, ORD is an all-female team but men are always welcome to train with us and join the team as referees. If you love the sport but are not ready to start skating yet, or would like to learn more before taking the plunge, you can get involved as a Non-Skating Official (NSO). We value our refs and NSOs greatly, not only are they part of the family, but they are essential to the sport.
Oxford Wheels of Gory
Wheels of Gory is based in Oxfordshire with training in Wheatley and Abingdon and are very proud of their inclusive atmosphere. With different training nights to Oxford Roller Derby, with who they have a great relationship with, their team competes at a slightly lower level and might have more appeal to people considering the sport as a more casual hobby, as well as those looking for competitive gameplay.
They are a not-for-profit all-inclusive, democratically-run sports team that loves to promote roller derby. They welcome skaters aged 18+ from all backgrounds irrespective of race, colour, creed, gender identity or sexual orientation. They aim to foster a supportive atmosphere, maintaining high safety standards and developing skills and athleticism, while promoting teamwork as an essential factor for success. They’re always looking for new skaters, officials and volunteers.
Working in partnership with Sport England, our mission is to make a sustainable difference to the inclusion of all under-represented communities in sport and physical activity, so as to improve the long-term opportunities and health outcomes of those communities.
Compiling a list and map of all LGBT sports clubs across the UK
